International projects making significant contributions to green issues and concerns can enter  competition to win $100,000.

Individuals, multi-disciplinary teams, and community groups are being encouraged to submit  entry forms for the University of St Andrews Prize for the Environment, with projects focused on sustainability, conservation, biodiversity and community development of particular interest.

The annual competition offers $100,000 to the winners, with two runners-up receiving $25,000 each. The closing date for applications is Wednesday 6th April 2022, at which point finalists will be chosen and invited to attend the St Andrews Prize for the Environment seminar, which takes place at the Scottish university’s campus on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd November. To be eligible, all finalists must be able to make the event.

‘The St Andrews Prize is a leading light in tackling the global climate emergency, supporting projects around the world that make a real difference to the communities and countries in which they operate,’ said St Andrews Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sally Mapstone. ‘Those who compete for this Prize have consistently inspired us, and it has never been more important for us, as global citizens, to play our part in supporting creative solutions to the greatest existential crisis facing the world today.’

Now in its 24th year, since inception the Prize has awarded more than $2million to projects across the world, selected from over 6,000 entries, reducing human-animal conflict, advocating for environmental justice, and helping to deliver new innovations and solutions to the climate crisis. Entries for 2022 are now open.

In related news, last year St Andrews was one of 30 UK universities identified as having an ‘excellent commitment’ to sustainable transport infrastructure.
