Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Offshore Wind Farm, located 15.5km off the coast of Fife, which became fully operational earlier this year, has been handed a top award by Scotland’s renewable energy industry.

The 450MW wind farm has scooped the ‘Outstanding Project Award’ at this year’s Scottish Green Energy Awards, with the project team embodying Scotland’s offshore resilience and innovation to successfully overcome the major challenges it has faced on the road to becoming fully operational.

The Scottish Green Energy Awards, which took place in Edinburgh on Thursday 4 December, saw winners in 14 categories receive trophies recognising their work in the industry, which employs more than 47,000 people.

Among them:

  • The East Region Commercial Fisheries Working Group, was recognised for its role in supporting ScotWind developers and fishers to identify solutions that support offshore wind development while minimising impacts on fishing activity, took home the ‘Best Engagement Award’.
  •  Sam Johnson, of RES, won the ‘Champion of Renewables Award’ for her work on innovations from low-impact lighting systems to new impact-assessment tools, alongside major progress on Eskdalemuir and the Onshore Wind Sector Deal.
  • SP Energy Networks won the ‘Best Innovation Award – Software and Services’ for its Local Authority Network Insight Tool which accelerates local decarbonisation by giving authorities clear visibility of network capacity, constraints and indicative costs.

The Scottish Green Energy Awards, run by industry body Scottish Renewables, is billed as the largest celebration of renewable energy in the UK and an annual celebration of the organisations, people and projects shaping Scotland’s clean energy sector.

The awards saw more than 50 individuals, companies and projects contest prizes in 14 categories at a 1,600-guest ceremony in Edinburgh.

The winners were selected by a panel of independent judges.

Claire Mack, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, said:

“The Scottish Green Energy Awards are always a truly special occasion and for more than 20 years they have been recognising our industry’s unwavering commitment to setting new standards through world-class innovation and expertise.

“The continued growth of this event reflects the wider growth we have seen across our £15 billion industry which now employs more than 47,000 people across Scotland.

“These awards are so important as they allow us to come together as an industry and look back on the successes we’ve achieved this year. There is so much for our industry to be proud of and that is reflected in an outstanding list of finalists.

“The calibre of those shortlisted is nothing short of inspiring and shows that we have outstanding individuals leading the way towards a stronger and more prosperous future.

“My congratulations go to all off this year’s nominees, and of course winners.”

The Scottish Green Energy Awards 2025 was headline-sponsored by EDF power solutions UK and Ireland.

Matthieu Hue, Chief Executive Officer, EDF power solutions UK and Ireland said:

“We extend our congratulations to all the nominees and the winners of tonight’s awards.

“It’s truly inspiring to see such an outstanding demonstration of talent and professionalism within Scotland’s renewable energy sector.

“This year’s awards highlight Scotland’s unwavering role as a global leader in clean energy. The exceptional quality of submissions reflects the nation’s dedication to renewables and our collective efforts in the battle against climate change.”
